If you are thinking of applying for a job abroad, these recommendations may be useful when writing your CV in English.
The purpose of a CV (UK) or Resume (US) is to get a job interview; therefore, the content must be oriented to the job offer itself.
It is common that only one A4 page is used for practicality reasons, since the objective of the CV is to get that interview in which you can elaborate and delve into more details.
Photos are generally not included in the US and UK to avoid discrimination issues. It is also not considered relevant to add your nationality, marital status or date of birth.
In the Contact Information section you must add your cell phone number, address and an email that preferably bears your last name. An email like sweetkitty@hotmail.com will not look professional.
It is advisable to add a summary (summary) that includes your main skills, outstanding projects, as well as your main academic and work achievements.
It is customary to list jobs in chronological order, starting with the most recent. Be sure to include primarily work experience that is related to the job you are applying for. If you want to add additional information, you can include a link or a QR code.
Avoid cliché words like hard worker or team player. In return, give an example of specific projects or jobs that prove it, such as: «I led the work team until the end of the project.» Use action verbs, such as: solved, trained, developed, etc. that demonstrate your abilities and achievements.
In the section of the studies completed (education) start with the highest ranking academic degree and mention the courses that are relevant to the position.
You can also mention the skills (skills) that are useful for that job, such as knowledge of languages or use of specific computer programs.
Do not forget to include the references (references) at the end of the CV.
Remember that the most relevant thing about a CV is its content; however, a clean format will make it easier to read.
